Wyoming state government could earn new revenue from selling more wind power to California.

Bill Gillette said Laramie is an ideal place for a company like his to set up shop.

The idea was born as the group brainstormed its next marketing campaign to leverage the "in-state drive" and generate play for Casper’s summer events.

Bill Edwards, CAEDA’s CEO and president, said the staff at UW’s Business Technology Center — the university’s Laramie-based business incubator — will bring to the project business-coaching expertise and start-up experience CAEDA didn’t have.

In many respects, the issue isn’t just one for lawmakers or local school boards.

The issue is one for communities.

The costs of keeping its hoped-for larger fleet in colder weather during the storage and repair months of the year outweighed the advantages of Wyoming’s low-tax business climate.

The Wyoming Business Council launched a new marketing campaign aimed at recruiting outdoor-products manufacturing and supply chain companies to the state.

Tourism is big business. It is always a leading revenue source for the state and an industry essential for the economy of many Wyoming communities.

The fact that Wyoming is planning for this change is representative of the state’s broader goal of harnessing progressive IT and transforming the state.
