The goal is to put more Native Americans in reservation classrooms as teachers, and to put more teachers in reservation classrooms that have taken classes in Native American history, culture and language as well as science, math and English.

MSU Seniors place in the 90th percentile nationwide.

"Montana’s students remain among the top students participating in 2007 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) for reading and mathematics," said Superintendent Linda McCulloch. "Only 8th grade students in two other states scored higher than Montana students in reading. Montana 8th grade students ranked 10th in math."

“The college did an excellent job of bringing people in from the valley who hire in this profession and learning what we need, and then turning around and implementing our recommendations,” Fields said. “They’re actually living up to being a community college.”

“It’s important to let students know what’s going on,” he said. “I’m glad Public Safety is rolling on this.”

MSU President Geoff Gamble said Tuesday he thinks the report is “very important,” especially for the Bozeman campus, where the high cost of living and high cost of housing make it harder for the university to fill job vacancies. MSU has more unfilled job vacancies than the rest of the University System put together, he added.

“America’s colleges are still failing to give their students a solid foundation in America’s heritage.”

“This whole mess is a sad commentary on the legacy of Clancy Gordon,” Bromenshenk said, referring to founder of the EVST program. “This lab is being closed and moved without a real plan as to where it will go and how it will serve the people who use it.

“Basically, we’ve been kicked out,” Bromenshenk said.
