An effort is underway to determine the level of interest and ultimately, the feasibility of a grant writer cooperative that would serve all of Montana.

It just seems more efficient to approach these projects in a logical, linear fashion – one that allows completion of one fundraising effort before launching the next, or at least to attempt fewer things at once. Wouldn’t it be better to finish yesterday’s great idea before moving on to the next new thing?

"Rates of compensation for fund-raisers are pushing against the CEO," he says. "It’s very difficult to find an experienced chief development officer for less than $150,000."

"Missoula provides Vital Ground with a much higher degree of flexibility to reach program areas on short notice and at a lower cost than was possible from Utah," said Wolfe. "This is a need that has become much more urgent during the past three years as the organization expanded from acting primarily as a grant-making foundation to an organization that manages its own habitat conservation projects."

The foundation supports Montanans and Montana organizations in visual, performing and literary arts; historical research and preservation; environmental research and conservation; and education and community health.
