Montana State University researchers aim to develop new technology for Resonon Inc. http://www.resonon.com/ , a manufacturer of machine vision and other imaging systems used in automated sorting and inspection. Both the company and the university are located in Bozeman.

Over the past few years, the university has seen the number of its students completing internships, the number of businesses taking on interns and the number of paid internships grow.

After launching Pocket NC’s Kickstarter this month with a goal of raising $70,000, Michelle and Matt Hertel attracted 280 backers pledging more than $355,000 in support for their project. They blew past their fundraising goal in the first hour, Michelle said.

Entire families from Deer Lodge, Anaconda, Butte, Helena and maybe beyond are expected to attend Saturday’s show. The "sensory" elements are geared to allow children on the autism spectrum, usually ages 4-8, to have a more pleasant movie experience, and thus let others in the theater have the same.

The kits are designed to help local merchants welcome MSU students and their families to Bozeman and celebrate the start of the new school year.

To name a school or college, a donor should be prepared to fund "an endowment able to support the annual operating budget (of the school or college), excluding salaries," according to recommendations from the UM Foundation.

In the past year the number of employees in the optics and photonics industry in the Gallatin Valley — including related research jobs — grew from 460 to 517, with almost 80 percent of those coming from MSU.
