For freshmen, that course is about the principles of biomedical science, sophomores learn about human body systems, juniors about medical interventions and students finish with a course in biomedical innovation during their senior year.

The transportation provider for School District 2 is kicking in $30,000 to help expand a science, technology, engineering and math program.

In an effort to train talent in rural areas that are not traditionally known for technology, Helix partnered with the University of Montana Western to create a series of tech boot camps.

Montana State University researchers aim to develop new technology for Resonon Inc. http://www.resonon.com/ , a manufacturer of machine vision and other imaging systems used in automated sorting and inspection. Both the company and the university are located in Bozeman.

"The program helps connect veterans with other nontraditional students and makes them feel at home here,"

Over the past few years, the university has seen the number of its students completing internships, the number of businesses taking on interns and the number of paid internships grow.

"Sponsors have an opportunity to help train the next generation of engineers while addressing a real-world issue," said Robb Larson, associate professor of mechanical and industrial engineering.

After launching Pocket NC’s Kickstarter this month with a goal of raising $70,000, Michelle and Matt Hertel attracted 280 backers pledging more than $355,000 in support for their project. They blew past their fundraising goal in the first hour, Michelle said.
