The Western Governors’ Association supports efforts that will ensure forest-dependent counties continue to receive a fair share of guaranteed revenue.

As the state’s projected mid-2011 budget balance dipped dangerously near red ink, Gov. Brian Schweitzer gained the legal authority Friday to cut spending as agencies offered up $46 million of proposed reductions.

"As you know, I have spent many hours over the last eight days trying to set up a conversation with you to no avail," Schweitzer wrote. "Starting on Wednesday, Jan. 20, we have been reaching out repeatedly to open up communication doors with you and the company. Many times over this period my efforts to set up such a conversation with you have been rebuffed."

“Just like Montana families have to make tough decisions about finances in these times, so does state government,” said Governor Brian Schweitzer. “We will continue to be accountable for every dollar.”

"The greatest expense comes in the protection of life and property, and that is also where you have the biggest risk to firefighters and public safety," Bonney said. "If we don’t show where these hazards are then we are just going in with our blinders on."

Let’s make calls and send letters right now letting Congress know that Healthy Montana Kids and the Children’s Health Insurance Program must be preserved.

“This is a major cost savings for the taxpayers of Montana,” said Governor Schweitzer. “Just like any small business we have to make tough choices about when to update our computer systems. Now is not the time. We will continue to be accountable for every dollar.”

The unusual Democrat continues to do it his own way, even if it makes staffers cringe and causes fellow Democrats to curse.

Montanans consume about 30,000 lbs of marijuana a year.

The governor told Gingrich that Montana is doing better than other states financially because it set some money aside during good times and was prudent with its budget.
