Frazier is the founder and managing partner of Frazier Healthcare Ventures, a 20-year-old Seattle and Menlo Park, CA-based venture firm that has $1.8 billion under management.

Prescience helps start and manage life sciences incubators, institutes, and other research centers.

"This is the first demonstration of protection in humans against what is a widespread and often serious illness and is a big development for the field," said the study’s leader, Dr. Robert Atmar of Baylor College of Medicine.

"What we’re trying to do is understand, can it be done here?"

The lifespan of a drug or device can be decided in the first few months of its launch.
