If we wanted to give the United States the best chance for a great future, and we were allowed to pick one thing to promote that – I would pick great teaching in America’s classrooms.

The program to reward high-performing teachers with salary stipends is part of a long-term effort by President Barack Obama to encourage education in high-demand areas that hold the key to future economic growth–and to close the achievement gap between American students and their international peers.

In the fall, Coursera https://www.coursera.org/ will offer 100 or more free massive open online courses, or MOOCs, that are expected to draw millions of students and adult learners globally.

Over the past 25 years, social scientists have produced some key insights into how successful people overcome their unsuccessful moments–and they have found that attitudes toward learning play a large role from a young age.

Nearly 50% of students today leave college without earning a degree. The data suggests students drop out from lack of funds, interest, mentorship, and real world relevance.

Many students could use the education, network and support of an entrepreneurial institution.

When you have thirteen-year-olds around, you have to explain what your business is, and how you make money in a way that they can really understand. It’s an exercise in delivering simplicity.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 8, and is open to anyone who works with girls or is interested in how the new project will support girls and girl-serving organizations in Montana.

The professor has helped build a simultaneous-translation computer program that allows students to use a laptop to gain access to real-time translations of lectures as well as any slides or presentations that a professor might use.
