Missoula BarCamp is about making a difference with technology and art. What topics would you most like to see?

Boasting a who’s-who list of modern documentary filmmakers, corporate sponsorship from the likes of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and HBO Documentary Films, and some 138 films from 30 countries, this year’s festival is bigger by almost any measure. And, ventures Steinberg, it’s better as well.

"I do get grumpy at times that they’ve forgotten that there was this book it was based on. And it didn’t come out of nowhere."

Creative firms, which range from design boutiques to video producers and from the performing arts to literary publishers, represent the fifth-largest and one of the fastest-growing economic sectors in the state, said Lt. Gov. Barbara O’Brien.

The Butte Digital Film Project, funded in part by Humanities Montana, gives twenty-four young adults the opportunity to creatively explore, examine, celebrate and critique their hometown using the medium of digital film.

"In 2009, the festival experienced an exponential increase in visitor attendance over the 2008 event. This proved Butte’s ability to host a high-quality family event and attract attendees from all over," said Mike Halligan, executive director of the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation.

Few things reflect the character and aspirations of a community more eloquently than its artistic events. In that sense, the first decade of this new millennium firmly established Missoula as the cultural capital of the Northern Rockies.
