Investors with the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network chose the concept from 46 early-stage and launch-stage companies in Oregon and Southwest Washington competing for angel investment in two categories.

With the global tech economy rebounding, prospects are finally starting to look up for Oregon’s beleaguered high-tech sectory.

In today’s State of the City address, Portland Mayor Sam Adams said the city will be putting up $500,000 to help get small businesses and startups launched.

The project
is intended to inform and energize the conversation about
entrepreneurship in Portland and detail how the City, through its
economic development efforts, can better support entrepreneurial
development and activity.

The Venture Catalyst program will focus specifically on helping early stage technology-based companies, the renewable energy industry and the aviation/aerospace sector.

Oregon energy officials released new rules Tuesday aimed at curbing a controversial state program that grants lucrative tax subsidies for wind, solar and other renewable power plants.

The students came to OSU this fall in the first wave of a push to double the number of foreign students in five years, lure $15 million more in tuition and add more international flavor to campus.

Uni-Chem representatives met with Oregon officials this week at a solar conference in Hamburg, Germany, to discuss potential subsidies, Little said. SolarWorld and other green companies have received tax credits and other government support.

“It’s the rage in terms of the next generation of electric transportation,” said Chris Warner, Gov. Ted Kulongoski’s transportation adviser. “The way I look at it is the first cell phones were the size of bricks. As consumers became used to them, they got smaller and smaller.”
