The best leaders are humble enough to recognize that they messed up, learn what not to do in the future, and develop resilience.

In his book, "Working In Sync," Mitchell writes about how he draws on lessons he learned as the freshman crew coach at Dartmouth in the 1980s, when he developed a group of young men, most of whom had never rowed before, into a team of high achievers.

“We are honored to bring Dr. McFaul back to his hometown of Bozeman and have him share his immense expertise with the students, faculty, staff and community of MSU,” said Carmen McSpadden, director of the MSU Leadership Institute.

What differentiates a standout candidate from the pack is whether he or she has the altrocentric leadership skills needed in business.

"Businesses just want to increase their profits; it’s up to the government to make sure they distribute enough of those profits so workers have the money to buy the goods they produce," Mujica told businessmen at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. "It’s no mystery — the less poverty, the more commerce. The most important investment we can make is in human resources."

"We are honored to have been selected for this leadership and immersive dialogue training at Bucknell University," said Carmen McSpadden, director of the MSU Leadership Institute who will also attend. "We hope to leave the retreat with improved decision making skills, understanding empathy at a deeper level, and increased knowledge about how to create action out of ideas."

The program includes four different components, including mentorship, perspective, knowledge and contribution.

Anderson’s presentation is part of MSU’s Year of Engaged Leadership, which highlights the university’s events and activities that develop leadership skills of students, faculty, staff and community members.
