of a juvenile sex crime brought a media maelstrom to
Twin Falls — one the Idaho city still hasn’t recovered from.

According to the board, this is the third year students with qualifying grades and test scores have automatically been admitted to Boise State University, University of Idaho, Idaho State University, Lewiston-Clark State College or one of the state’s four community colleges.

State leaders made the payment Sept. 5 as part of a settlement with the federal agency over claims that the state misused more than $14 million in federal money by putting it toward the illegally awarded contract.

Insurance Director Dean Cameron called it a "win-win solution" that would lower insurance costs while providing access to health care for Idaho’s working poor. Your Health Idaho Executive Director Pat Kelly called it "an Idaho solution."

"Overwhelmingly, I’m hearing from educators and the public that Idaho is headed in the right direction for supporting students and teachers," Ybarra said in a prepared statement. "Idaho is seeing the positive impact of our investment evidenced in the huge increase of students taking college level classes in high schools, the early positive gains in reading, as well as districts making strides in attracting and retaining teachers."
