What we know about autism—and how to treat it—could change after new UCSF study

The MDT Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program encourages and supports the participation of companies owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals in transportation contracts.

One of the key findings of the study was the identification of a specific genetic variant that was strongly associated with autism. This variant affects a gene responsible for regulating the balance of excitatory and inhibitory signals in the brain. Disruptions in this balance have been previously implicated in autism.
