American Prairie Reserve Celebrates 20 Years, 420,000 acres and counting

Bear Paw Development Corporation is a private non-profit organization created for the purpose of administering programs to help improve regional economic conditions in Hill, Blaine, Liberty, Chouteau and Phillips Counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy's Indian Reservations.

Twenty years ago, our organization launched with the unprecedented mission of restoring an entire prairie ecosystem on the Northern Great Plains of Montana. Soon after, we purchased our first property and began an amazing journey to preserve this vital place as a refuge for people and wildlife.

Thanks to supporters like you, American Prairie now consists of more than 420,000 acres and counting. Our vision of collaborative conservation continues to bring together a groundswell of individuals, institutions, agencies, businesses, organizations, and communities who are as passionate about the prairie as we are. We’re so grateful for all of you as we look ahead to the next 20 years with optimism for the prairie’s future.

In this spirit, we will be refreshing the American Prairie brand. While our mission and work remain the same, our look will be evolving to reflect the vast beauty and diversity of life that has captivated the prairie’s visitors for millennia. Stay tuned!
