Small-Town Philanthropies Use the Great Wealth Transfer to Fund Rural Communities – Winifred, Montana Got A $40 Million High School – What Does Your Hometown Need?

Rural communities have historically been underfunded by philanthropies, but a new cohort of funders are looking to make a difference.

Joul said Community Giving is working on redirecting money from the Great Wealth Transfer by reminding people that even a seemingly small gift allocated in a will to a local foundation can make a big difference.

“Basically, I believe that my success in life is contingent not only upon what I have done, but what people have done for me, and what institutions have done for me,” he said. “And wherever I’ve lived I’ve received some virtue.”

It’s such a gift to have an amazing extended family. We and the kids always have a great time when we’re back in Winifred, and the only downside is that we didn’t have enough time there to see and do everything we wanted to do … which just adds to the list for next time!
