Montana Filmmaker Erik Petersen’s The Ride Named EQUUS INTERNATIONAL® Film Festival Finalist

The Ride, by Montana filmmaker and photographer Erik Petersen, has been named an Official Selection for Best Horse Sport Video at the EQUUS INTERNATIONAL® Film Festival, March 14-17, at The Roxy Theater in downtown Missoula, Montana. “The Ride is a very interesting film,” says EIFF founder, Janet Rose, “and we hope that Erik, and his family, will attend to either introduce his film or do a question-and-answer afterwards.”

Petersen has been documenting life in Montana and around the world for two decades. While his roots are in telling stories through still photography, he has garnered state, regional and national awards, including for his film, The Hard Way, winner of the Audience Choice Award at the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival and selected as a finalist by the 2016 Banff Mountain Film Festival, as well as featured at Telluride Mountainfilm, 5-Point Film Festival, and the Vancouver International Film Festival. He has twice been named Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association and was a news photographer before pursuing a freelance career.

His work today includes editorial, commercial and outdoor photography, documentary filmmaking, and he teaches visual journalism as an adjunct professor at the University of Montana, while sharing life in southwest Montana with his wife and two boys, a dozen chickens and a bird dog.
