Idaho summit tackles taxes

North Idaho chamber members, legislators gather to share goals

There’s hardly a hotter topic around this year than taxes, and it was just one of several discussed Friday at the North Idaho Chambers State Issues Summit at the Coeur d’Alene Resort.

The annual confab between chamber members from the five northern counties, legislators and representatives from education drew about 50 to share their goals for the 2006 session of the Idaho Legislature.

Highlighting the complexities of Idaho’s tax law during lunch aboard a docked cruise ship was Randy Nelson, president of Associated Taxpayers of Idaho.

"Even when the economy drops, property values and taxes continue to grow," he said.

The economy is, however, booming, and taxes are rising even faster.
