By most reports, by 2020 there will be 10 million semi and fully autonomous cars on the road. And according to Stanford Magazine, by 2030, passenger vehicles will drop to 44 million down from 247 million in 2020.

Scott Brusaw, co-founder, Solar Roadways, says he sees roads and walkways as being an abundant source of clean, renewable energy.

The company makes driveable solar panels for roads and is funded by the US Department of Transportation (DOT). The startup has three rounds of funding for their research from the DOT since 2009 totaling $1.6 million. In 2014, the company launched an Indiegogo campaign and raised $2.287,264 million for their solar panels.
