Establishing goals is the first key to success

Debbie Gilster doesn’t make new year’s resolutions.
She finds setting intentions less intimidating for the small business clients of her consulting practice, the Center for Growth & Productivity in Laguna Niguel, Calif.
”I’m a big proponent of planning, but many small-business people are fearful to put goals in writing: It seems inflexible," Gilster explains. ”If they just write down what they intend to do for the year, it [seems] more changeable."
”New year" and resolution go togeter like e-mail and spam. But several small-business experts, who are small-business owners themselves, recognize the importance of setting goals — or intentions — and January is as good a time as any to start.
