Google has announced that, based on exhaustive research into 10,000 observations about managers across 100 variables, it has developed eight rules that make managers great.

Reporting on their findings for The New York Times on March 12, Adam Bryant wrote, the list of best practices reads like "a whiteboard gag from an episode of The Office." That’s because most of the recommended behaviors are so generic ("listen to your team") they evoke laughter. In all likelihood, their rules will become far more individualized in practice.
