Waymo Unveils $29.99 Monthly Subscription for Premium Robotaxi Riders

Waymo

Alphabet’s Waymo has introduced Waymo Premier, an invite-only subscription tier aimed at power users in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. This move represents a structural shift toward generating steady revenue amid competition and financial losses in Alphabet’s Other Bets segment.

Subscribers pay $29.99 per month for benefits including prioritized ride matching, up to five free cancellations, and 10% back in loyalty credits per trip. The initiative complements Waymo’s broader expansion plans, with robotaxi services set to extend to additional U.S. cities and London later in 2026. The company recently raised $16 billion in funding, valuing Waymo at $126 billion, despite a year-over-year revenue decline to $411 million and increased segment losses.

Waymo’s strategy may offer a more predictable income stream as it competes with Amazon Zoox and Tesla in autonomous ride services.

While Montana is not mentioned in this rollout, the state’s wide-open spaces and dispersed population might influence how subscription-based robotaxi models perform if introduced there. Local demand patterns and infrastructure costs could shape the viability and appeal of a premium autonomous ride service in less densely populated regions.
