The Habitat Montana program is our state’s best tool for keeping Montana Montana but it’s in the crosshair of both Governor Gianforte’s budget and newly introduced legislation in Helena
February 13, 2023 /
Especially when Montana voters unequivocally asked for this.
Habitat Montana funds conservation easements that keep family ranches intact, improves public access, preserves quality wildlife habitat, and adds hunting opportunities – all in a voluntary way that honors and protects property rights. It also allows the state to purchase property and create new wildlife management areas; both the recently approved Big Snowy Mountains WMA and the addition to the Mt. Haggin WMA were purchased using Habitat Montana dollars.
This is exactly the kind of program we should be celebrating, promoting and bolstering, not having to defend.
