TechLink – The Navy’s new non-mechanical laser steering technology

Small TechLink

SPOTLIGHT

The Air Force recently received a U.S. patent on a very interesting headset that allows users to communicate in loud environments, but instead of radio, the typical transmission method, the messages travel on light beams.

Mike Sedillo at the Air Force Research Laboratory’s 711th Human Performance Wing invented the free space optical headset to provide hearing protection and voice communications to its users, for example, an in-flight patient care team working in an airplane or helicopter or workers at an industrial site.

Here at TechLink, we’re searching for a private company that sees the commercial, non-military potential of the solution and can develop the headset into a product available to the public.

I’m here to help you evaluate the technology and apply for a license.
