Sunergy World to Build Idaho’s First Large-Scale Solar Generation Facility

Boise-based $45 million facility to produce 10 megawatts of power

Sunergy World (http://sunergyworld.com), an Idaho-based renewable energy services firm guiding wind, solar and biomass project development across the West, today announced a public/private partnership with the City of Boise to build Idaho’s first large-scale solar facility.

Once complete, the $45 million electrical-generation facility is expected to produce 10 megawatts of power – enough electricity to power 1,200 homes annually.

In addition to providing a new and needed source of renewable clean energy in the Intermountain West, construction of Sunergy’s facility will bring new use to a brownfield site located just west of the Boise Airport.

As Boise Mayor Dave Bieter noted in announcing the lease negotiation with Sunergy for the property, “Old-timers might recognize this site as the old city dump – a site that will produce green energy, provide local jobs, and promote the renewable energy industry. Sunergy has also proposed adding solar panels to new awnings in the Airport’s parking lots – an exciting opportunity – and another illustration of how Boise can leverage its assets to support the local economy.”

The Sunergy facility will incorporate locally built solar modules from Boise’s Transform Solar, and storage arrays from Oregon’s Sun Storage (http://www.sunstorage.org). Utilizing both regional companies will mean retention of 20 local manufacturing jobs and creation of 20 new construction jobs to build the facility. The project is also anticipated to be a catalyst for the relocation of more renewable energy manufacturers to Southwest Idaho.

“As a business Sunergy is focused on keeping energy prices low by helping clients create renewable clean energy that takes the pressure off existing power supplies and distribution systems,” said Sunergy President Mark van Gulik. “But we are also personally committed to improving quality of life in our home state and creating opportunities for sustainable energy production that feeds a sustainable economy for our neighbors and future generations.”

Lease negotiations with the City of Boise for the property are anticipated to be complete by late June. Following the necessary approval process, facility construction is expected to begin in 4th quarter of 2010 with an anticipated completion of 2011.
