Study: With or without new tax cuts, Montana ranks well for how it treats businesses
Montana’s tax code is one of the best in the nation for people doing business, a national tax group has concluded.
As Montana readies for a legislative session during which both parties are expected to push for tax cuts, the nonpartisan Tax Foundation has released a report that puts Montana’s "business tax climate" at sixth best in the country.
In making its annual rankings, the Tax Foundation looks at which of the three major taxes – sales tax, property tax and income tax – a state imposes and whether the state created a "level playing field" for businesses.
