Salish Kootenai Students Launch $10,000 Scholarship Fund to Support Incoming Freshmen Class
The Future Bison Scholarship is being funded by students at Salish Kootenai College to support incoming freshmen, intending to ease financial burdens and encourage enrollment in business programs. This effort carries cultural weight for Native American students in the region.
Students including John Komotios and Bailee Flammond, guided by faculty advisor Timothy Carlin, are leading fundraising through door-to-door campaigns, t-shirt sales, and participation in local events. The target of $10,000 will directly help next year’s freshmen, although details on distribution and eligibility remain unspecified. Komotios emphasized the importance of scholarships in his own education, while Flammond noted their role in enabling her to graduate. Carlin highlighted the broader goal of giving back to the community and strengthening the tribe.
The scholarship will be available for freshmen enrolling next year, with fundraising continuing.
