Power drain: A guide to proposed data centers so far in Montana

Over the last year, data center companies from around the country have staked out Montana with a bullseye as the place to build giant new facilities.
And the largest monopoly utility in the state, NorthWestern Energy, has been happy to oblige them so far.
NorthWestern has signed Letters of Intent with three different data center companies to supply as much as 1,400 megawatts of power, combined, by the year 2030. Another data center company has announced plans to need another 600 megawatts more to that load.
