Oregon has more homes without plumbing now than in 2000

The next time you are quietly sitting in that certain place, with a few moments to yourself, let your mind settle on this fact: In the past 10 years, Oregon experienced a spike in the number of homes without complete plumbing facilities.

The data come with an even more curious wrinkle: In general, the lack of indoor plumbing has long registered as a problem of rural areas. But according to the U.S. Census Bureau, Oregon’s five most-populous counties accounted for the entire 33 percent increase in the number of homes without plumbing from 2000 to 2009.
