Missoula’s Museum of Forest Service History to expand science, tech programs

It’s estimated that 80 percent of the jobs created in the next decade will require some form of math and science skills, yet the United States lags far behind its goal of graduating 400,000 college students with degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics – known, collectively, as STEM – by 2015.

So Missoula’s National Museum of Forest Service History http://nmfs-history.net/ announced Friday it will expand its education programs and exhibits with an eye toward fostering interests in those fields among young people.

"I wouldn’t say it’s a change of direction for us, but it means we’ll be more focused on highlighting that element," Jennifer Flaster, a senior adviser to the museum, said.
