Missoula, Montana’s Hawthorne Elementary students get high-tech education

Bear Paw Development Corporation is a private non-profit organization created for the purpose of administering programs to help improve regional economic conditions in Hill, Blaine, Liberty, Chouteau and Phillips Counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy's Indian Reservations.

Some of the first-graders at Hawthorne Elementary http://www.mcps.k12.mt.us/portal/Default.aspx?alias=www.mcps.k12.mt.us/portal/hawthorne enter school with zero exposure to technology.

A Title I school, Hawthorne is home to many kids from struggling homes where technology is a luxury that takes a back seat to simple survival – food, housing, clothing.

But here, students are quickly immersed in the hands-on application of technology, as the school has made it its mission to infuse student lessons and learning with hardware and software that engages them from the second they walk in the door.
