Looking for ideas and technology that the DoD wants commercialized? Defense Department pledges billions toward artificial intelligence research

The military’s research arm said Friday it will invest up to $2 billion over the next five years toward new programs advancing artificial intelligence, stepping up both a technological arms race with China and an ideological clash with Silicon Valley over the future of powerful machines.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, part of the Defense Department, said it will fund dozens of new research efforts as part of a "Third Wave" campaign aimed at developing machines that can learn and adapt to changing environments.

TechLink – Looking for ideas and technology that the DoD wants commercialized?

The MSU TechLink Center is an integral part of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development. TechLink was established in 1996 to help technology companies in Montana and the surrounding states develop productive technology partnerships with the nation’s ten NASA centers. In 1999, it became the Department of Defense’s first national partnership intermediary, helping companies nationwide to license DoD inventions for conversion into new products and services.

TechLink’s activities have gradually evolved. Today, TechLink is highly integrated with MSU’s modern land-grant mission and economic development outreach. In addition to its nationally prominent technology transfer activities for DoD, TechLink manages MSU’s Technology Transfer Office, runs the university’s Software Engineering and Analysis Laboratory involving computer science students and faculty, oversees a Procurement Technical Assistance Center that helps small businesses in Montana to successfully compete for government contracts, promotes Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), and actively engages with other MSU entities to advance the state’s innovation economy and foster economic development.
