Iddaho National Laboratory weighs in on effects of Japan’s nuclear crisis

The failure of three nuclear facilities after Friday’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan have raised questions about airborne radiation and the safety of nuclear energy.

Idaho National Laboratory http://www.inl.gov Director John Grossenbacher was confident that a similar disaster could not happen in Idaho. INL has two reactors, Grossenbacher said, but they are test reactors, not power reactors like those in Japan.

To guard against the danger of radiation moving over the Pacific from Japan, the Environmental Protection Agency recently announced it would deploy additional electronic monitors to measure radiation in the air.
