How a Simple Data Query Made One D.C. Agency Smarter, More Efficient

Washington, D.C.’s Urban Forestry Administration set an example for cities everywhere about how powerful a new set of data can be when creatively leveraged.

Besides fine-tuning its models to lower error margins, the city is building a modeling tool that combines lidar and elevation data to find the best place to plant trees in order to mitigate the largest volume of stormwater.
