Q: What exactly is Missoula "GIS coffee talk"?

A: It is an informal, non-commercial, networking oriented gathering of GIS
interested folks in the Missoula area. It will be a chance to get to know
other GISers in the local and surrounding Missoula area, what they’re doing,
share experiences, tips & tricks, and maybe have a cup of coffee. GIS is
now being increasingly recognized is an unknown "cluster" in terms of
economic development opportunities in Montana.

We had a suggestion last time to have technical "themes" to our meetings so
we’ve decided to have 2 presentations (and hopefully some good discussion)
concerning spatial metadata tools in GIS: Mike Sweet from the Univ. of
Montana will present his experience with the ArcIMS Metadata Server for the
GIS data holdings of the Lubrecht Experimental Forest and Alex Philp of GCS
Research will present regarding their experience in documenting XML metadata
to be harvested for the Lewis and Clark "channel" on the Geo-Spatial
One-Stop.

We will discuss additional topics at this meeting based on member input. If
you have ideas for future presentations (or would be willing to present one)
bring them and we’ll get them on the schedule for a future meeting.

Since we invaded Liquid Planet with our large turn out last meeting and had
trouble hearing everybody, the 2nd Missoula GIS coffee talk group is going
to be held in a more appropriate facility.

It will be from 10:30AM to noon
on Friday, November 12, 2004 in the conference room of the Montana Technology Enterprise Center (also known as Montec). The address is 1121 E.
Broadway, Missoula, Montana 59802. Traveling east, Montec is on the right
side of East Broadway past the Eastgate Shopping Center/Thunderbird motel
but before the Missoula Athletic Club. For those of you who have been
around Missoula awhile it is the former Shehan Majestic building.

Since we won’t be technically at a coffee shop this time, it will be BYOC
(Bring Your Own Coffee). The Rattlesnake Trading Company (RTC) has good
coffee and is on the way to Montec for those traveling east. It is the
located in the Conoco on the left side of the road before you get to Montec.
Coffee is also available at Eastgate Albertsons.

Please forward as appropriate.

Hope to see you there,

Bryant Ralston
