GCS Research Geospatial Sensor Project Receives Funding for US Army Program – Regional Consortium to Advance Capabilities of US Warfighter

GCS Research is pleased to announce notification of program funding for the “Real Time
Geospatial Video Sensor Intelligence” project with the US Army Night Vision and
Electronic Sensor Director (NVESD) at Fort Belvoir, VA.

GCS Research and a
consortium of partner companies worked closely with Senator Conrad Burns’ office to
secure $1 million in Department of Defense (DoD) program funds. Known as the “Smart
Data Project,” the program addresses existing NVESD sensor system requirements and
advances the critical mission capabilities of the US warfighter.

To accomplish project objectives, GCS Research formed a team of companies with
unique commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies. These companies include
Digimarc Corporation, S&K Electronics Inc., and AquilaVision Inc. This team will
combine their respective technologies into the Smart Data solution set for NVESD. By
using COTS-based solutions, the Smart Data program will propel systems integration and
deliver a functional, rapid-prototype to fulfill requirements as defined by NVESD.

“We are extremely honored to have received these funds through the direct support of
Senator Conrad Burns,” states Alex Philp, President of GCS Research. “Senator Burns
and his staff worked tirelessly to assist us in responding to the immediate needs of the
NVESD and the soldiers they support.

Senator Burns personally recognized the
seriousness of this project and the value to American soldiers currently in-theater. My
company and the rest of the team members are anxious to launch the project and deliver a
solution that fulfills mission-critical objectives.”
“We must always be seeking ways to improve the safety and effectiveness of our armed
forces,” said U.S. Senator Conrad Burns (R-Mont).

“Technological research such as this
is a key component to not only ensuring the effectiveness of our troops, but making sure
they hold the edge far into the future. I’m hopeful we will be able to maintain the
funding for this program through the congressional process.”
Burns is a senior member of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, and a
member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, which has included the funds for
NVESD in their Fiscal Year 2006 bill.

Vital to the success of the project formation, GCS Research partnered with other
Montana companies that brought unique capabilities to the Smart Data Project. These
include S&K Electronics in Ronan, MT and AquilaVision Inc. of Missoula, MT.
AquilaVision and GCS Research maintain offices in the Montana Technology Enterprise
Center (MonTEC), and according to Dick King of the Missoula Area Economic Development Corporation and MonTEC, “This is a great example of a successful
regional partnership that is bringing economic development to Montana.”

Chuck Eubank, President and CEO of AquilaVision, adds “This is wonderful for
Montana. AquilaVision looks forward to working with the Smart Data Team to deliver
cutting edge technology to the Department of Defense.”

S&K Electronics, which will supply advanced digital electronic components, sees the
Smart Data project as an expansion and extension of its existing DoD programs and
capabilities. “The Smart Data Project reflects the value of bringing Montana companies
together to fulfill the increasingly complex technical requirements of DoD,” states Larry
Hall, President of S&K Electronics. “We look forward to working with GCS Research to
combine our specific technologies into a practical solution that exceeds the expectation of
our DoD customer.”

In the immediate future, GCS Research and the rest of the Smart Data Team will continue
to refine the technical and programmatic elements in consultation with NVESD. While
existing Smart Data Team members have been developing components, formal project
launch will occur upon successful passage of the full DoD funding bill.
