Buses are driving Montana’s EV future

A few days after Montana’s first electric school buses rolled into Havre, the Hi-Line community was clobbered by an Arctic blast plunging temperatures into the negative 30s for several days.

School does not stop at 30 degrees below zero on the Hi-Line. Neither do the buses. The district’s shop foreman, Seth Hamilton, decided to put the electrics to the test. He didn’t expect the EVs to outperform his diesel Bluebirds, even on a day so cold it took a cocktail of additive and diesel to prevent the bus fuel from coagulating.
