Boise Idaho group hopes to bring jobs to Valley

Treasure Valley economic development experts hope to generate 11,000 new jobs over the next five years, which they say would inject $300 million into the local economy.

The Boise Valley Economic Development Partnership has begun preliminary fundraising for its five-year, $5 million "Valley Initiative for Prosperity," a program designed to generate 5,000 jobs with an average annual salary of $35,000.

If successful, that would create another 6,000 positions in the service industry paying about $10 an hour, said campaign director Morgan O’Brien.

The goal is to replace jobs that were lost when area businesses like Zilog, Jabil Circuits, Simplot Meat Packing and Eddy’s Bakery closed their local operations in recent years.
