Big Sky Economic Development: Local innovator Randy Hafer of High Plains Architects has a vision for a sustainable future

The MDT Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program encourages and supports the participation of companies owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals in transportation contracts.

One of Montana’s visionaries is Randy Hafer of High Plains Architects http://highplainsarchitects.com/ . He, his wife Janna and a team of innovators have designed and built a comfortable, affordable, and low maintenance house that will be entirely self-sustaining: The Urban Frontier House.

The dream that led to the Urban Frontier House has changed many times since its first conception in the early 1970s. In the fall of that year Billings native Randy Hafer left every place he had ever known for a university in the Bay Area of California to study architecture.
