Beartooth Highway generates millions of dollars for local Montana and Wyoming communities

The Beartooth Scenic Highway generated millions of dollars this past summer for local communities.

Nearly $45 million was spent by nonresidents of the Beartooth region in Red Lodge, Cooke City and Cody, according to a study conducted by the University of Montana Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research.

32 percent of the nonresidents primarily traveled the highway because of its designation, which was the highest reason of all, and 54 percent actually indicated the highway was a destination, not just a travel route to somewhere else."
