2009 Montana Economic Outlook Seminar, 01/27- 3/11, Many Communities Throughout Montana

Montana’s Transportation Future – Opportunities Around the Next Curve

Presented by The University of Montana, Bureau of Business and Economic Research and cosponsored by local area Chambers of Commerce.

Program description

At the 34th Annual Economic Outlook Seminar, Steve Albert, Director of the Western Transportation Institute, will address the connection between Montana’s transportation system and its economy. Transporting Montana’s valuable products such as cattle, wheat, and copper will continue to be important to keep our state competitive in a global economy. As alternative energy development continues in an effort to solve the nation’s energy crisis, our state needs to be poised to transport wind power, coal, and other energy resources. While we don’t know what is around the next curve, the future surely holds opportunities. Montana needs to start thinking about a complete, integrated transportation system that will allow us to remain competitive in the ever-changing economy.

RECESSION WATCH: Bureau economists will provide current information on the recession, national economic crisis, and what it means for Montana’s economic outlook. As in the past, other experts will examine recent trends and the outlook for Montana’s important industries, agriculture, forest products, non-resident travel, health care, and manufacturing. Our luncheon program will feature Jim Lynch and Hal Fossum of the Montana Department of Transportation.

Seminar starts at 8 a.m. and ends after the luncheon at about 1:00 p.m.
