Montana State University’s new research VP Renee Reijo Pera aims to boost Montana’s economy and jobs
"Historically, we educated students to occupy existing jobs," Reijo Pera said. "It’s a different mind frame to educate students to create jobs."
When Renee Reijo Pera told colleagues at Stanford University she was leaving her successful stem-cell research lab to take charge of a rocky research enterprise at Montana State University http://www.montana.edu/wwwvr/ , some people said she’s crazy. Others asked if they could come, too.
Reijo Pera, 54, has been MSU vice president for research and economic development just five months, but already she feels that she made the right choice and MSU’s research has made "a lot of progress."
"I’m happy," Reijo Pera said Tuesday, sitting in her spare corner office at Montana Hall. "I love the challenges."
