Economic Development Planners Often Not Aware of Child Care Gaps
Good quality child care is an important element of economic development – it’s hard for parents to work if they can’t find reliable early learning services – but only a minority of planners realized their communities did not have enough affordable care, a report says.
…A national survey of planners found that only 20 percent recognized that their community lacked an adequate supply of affordable child care. A shocking 43 percent did not know about child care supply problems (Israel and Warner 2008). – "Planning for Family-Friendly Communities Briefing Paper." 4/10. http://economicdevelopmentandchildcare.org/documents/technical_assistance/planning_family_friendly/issue_child_care.pdf
