Adoption of Common Core Standards for Montana schools raises the bar
The academic bar will soon be more difficult to hurdle – at least in theory – for students across the state as the Office of Public Instruction continues to demand that school districts in Montana adopt new, uniform standards of education.
The Common Core State Standards, developed by state education bosses and the National Governors Association, define in great specificity at every grade level what every student must know in language arts and mathematics. Adopted by almost all of the 50 states – last May in Montana – they are an attempt to level the academic field by which students from Hawaii to Maine are measured and tested, while producing smarter children.
