Big-city students get taste of life under the Big Sky

Chicago has earned many nicknames over the years, but the Windy City has stuck.

This week, a group of private school students from Chicago are learning what a true windy city feels like.

Latin School of Chicago students are spending the week working in chilling winds while visiting the Rocky Mountain Front for a workshop at the Pine Butte Guest Ranch, about 30 miles north of Choteau.

More than a dozen high school students made the approximately 1,400-mile trek from the high rises to the foothills for a crash course on roughing it like true outdoor enthusiasts. Students picked their own food, cut wood and built fires, among other activities.

"It makes you realize what we take for granted in the city," Alex Rausch said.
