Second coal gasification group in Idaho to vie for FMC site: Competitor to construct pilot project

A 520-megawatt coal gasification plant proposed for the outskirts of Pocatello already faced a daunting permitting process in addition to opposition from many concerned residents.

Now, it appears to also have a direct competitor.

A five-member southeast Idaho group called Homeland Resources plans to start a 15-megawatt pilot project to show potential backers the type of technology they would use in a full-blown operation.

“We just want to start small-scale in the Department of Energy’s backyard and get the process proven and then we’ll go large,” said Julie Foster, one of the principals of Homeland Resources.
