Owners Favor Mentors, Social Networks for Tips

Where do small-business owners go for advice?

Individual mentors top the list for owners seeking help with general business decisions, or when seeking ideas to build a business, according to a survey last month by American Express’s Open Small Business Network unit.

Of all the owners polled, 52% turn to mentors, 51% to personal social networks and 44% to trade associations. Professional business advisers are cited by 36% of the owners surveyed, while the Internet is used by 31%, and 27% turn to the local chamber of commerce.
