XPENG’s IRON robot autonomously walked off its production line, marking a manufacturing breakthrough.
XPENG transitioned from research prototypes to industrial-scale production of a high-level humanoid robot in Guangzhou. This shift signals a structural move toward mainstream robotic manufacturing with automotive-grade quality controls.
The IRON robot, standing 173 centimeters tall and weighing 65 kilograms, emerged from a production line featuring over 80 percent automation and sharing more than 85 percent of its supply chain with XPENG’s electric vehicle operations. Equipped with three Turing AI chips delivering 2250 TOPS, the robot boasts 76 degrees of freedom and utilizes XPENG’s Physical AI foundation model. The robotics business recently secured over $900 million in private financing, valuing it above $6.3 billion. Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng emphasized the unprecedented scale and depth of the manufacturing process, designed from the ground up with no precedents. Initial deployments will appear in XPENG showrooms and campuses, with external deliveries slated for 2027.
XPENG will verify additional in-house deployment scenarios in the fourth quarter of 2026.
While XPENG’s operations remain centered in China, this development could potentially prompt Montana’s business community to consider robotics integration in the state’s industrial and service sectors. The potential for humanoid robots in retail and commercial environments could influence local workforce dynamics and supply chain logistics, which might be relevant to regions like Montana with interests in automation and manufacturing quality control.
