Why It’s Time To Think About Self-Driving Cars In Regards To Parking

Self-driving cars may be great for those who don’t want to own a car or get behind the wheel, but they promise to be a nightmare for parking enforcement.

Interesting but their concerns are based on people still owning cars that they drive into a city. Many cities are successfully eliminating most cars. In the very near future, people will subscribe to an autonomous car service and simply call a car when needed. When they get out (the curb will be the most important real estate in a city) the car will then be available for the next user. There will be small parklets where not in use autos will wait and not just drive around. They will be much smaller than traditional parking lots because no one needs to get into or out of the car.
The infrastructure of our built environment is going to change radically as we are no longer held hostage by carcatecture – basing everything on the car.
