These platforms, including FanDuel and DraftKings, capitalize on impulsivity driven by hormones like testosterone, which increase risk-taking and reduce cognitive reflection. Celebrities such as Kevin Hart and Megan Fox endorse these apps, lowering users’ fear of risk. Users make decisions every three to five seconds, encouraging fast, emotionally charged bets. The platforms appear to affect vulnerable groups, especially young men prone to social isolation, potentially creating a cycle of addiction that may be profitable yet harmful. Platt describes susceptibility as “deeply baked in,” rooted in ancient survival mechanisms.

While no specific regulatory responses are noted, the expansion of gambling apps has been rapid and largely unregulated since 2018.
