Missoula-based compression legwear company VIM & VIGR is entering an exciting new phase of growth with the construction of a 14,000-square-foot warehouse at the Wye, one of Missoula’s emerging commercial hubs. The expansion allows the company to more than double its warehouse space, supporting increased demand and operational efficiency.

For founder and owner Michelle Huie, the need for a larger space became evident when her team could no longer work in the warehouse simultaneously due to space constraints. Constantly shifting boxes to create room was proving inefficient, making it clear that it was time for an upgrade.

Huie remains committed to Missoula, crediting the loyal, hardworking team she has built—many of whom have been with the company for an average of seven years. She highlights Missoula’s strategic location along I-90 and its proximity to major shipping ports in Seattle and Tacoma, making freight logistics more efficient for businesses importing products. Huie also cites the support of Missoula’s business community which she believes encourages companies to stay and expand locally.

The Expansion Process: Challenges & Opportunities

Initially, Huie planned to lease additional warehouse space, but limited availability of mid-sized industrial properties in Missoula led her to the realization that to get what she needed, she’d have to have it built. When an acre of land became available at the Wye, she seized the opportunity.

Similarly to the Montana Knife Company, who are in the process of building an $18 million facility, Huie saw the potential at the Wye while also recognizing the infrastructure challenges.  While the Wye offers potential, it also presented infrastructure challenges, including underdeveloped water systems and high-speed internet. As one of the early movers in the area, Huie had to invest in these utilities, but she sees this as a long-term advantage. Missoula County has ambitious plans for the Wye’s development, transforming it into a mixed-use commercial and residential corridor with improved infrastructure and affordable housing projects.

Executing this large-scale project required the right team. Huie partnered with Ryan Yarborough and Lou Ralls from Carl Construction, who brought valuable expertise in industrial development. Additionally, she worked with Brenda Meyers at First Interstate Bank to secure the necessary construction loan.
